Nylsvley Nature Reserve

An internationally renowned RAMSAR site, the 4,000 ha Nylsvley Conservancy forms part of South Africa's largest flood-plain, the 16,000 ha Nyl River Flood-plain that stretches over 70km from Modimolle to Mokopane. It is close to the N1, South Africa's primary national road, and only one-and-a-half hours' drive from Gauteng's major urban centres.

Highlights: Ramsar registered wetland area

The area is open to tourists, who usually come for birdwatching, and volunteers work in the area to help clear alien invasive plant species and build bird hides. Ramsar site no. 952. Most recent RIS information: 1997. (Source:www.ramsar.org )
